My prayer book

7.00
Prayer, according to St. John Chrysostomos, is a great and mighty weapon, a great possession, a binding of man with God, it is a medicine, an everlasting richness, in which the grace of God flows freely through the veins of the soul, an invitation to the eternal life. Prayer compares to the Angels. Man himself, converses with God. “Nothing has its measure”. Nothing is equal to prayer, says the Holy Father. Prayer is a skill, thus it requires practice and continuing effort. It must be made with a zealous soul, with deep concentration, so we realize, which direction to take, who we stand before and who we converse with. “Pray without ceasing” St. Paul tells us (Thess. 5. V. 17.). (From the prologue of the book). Contents:

A compilation of the sayings of Archimandrite Sophrony, a master of the Orthodox spiritual life. Translated by Sister Magdalen. These are brief extracts from the spiritual talks of Father Sophrony, founder of the Monastery of St. John the Baptist, Essex. These extracts, nourished by the Word of God and by the writings of the Ascetic Fathers, are in the truest sense both evangelical and philokalian. They follow the formula of the desert fathers; Abba, give me a word. An example: In life there is nothing that is really insignificant, small, mundane. Author: Archimandrite Sophrony Archimandrite Sophrony, an outstanding Christian ascetic, monk, and mystic of the 20th century. He studied at the Orthodox Theological Institute in Paris. He lived as a monk on Mount Athos in the Russian Monastery of St Panteleimon and spent his final years at the Monastery of St. John the Baptist , Essex, United Kingdom. Language: English
